water and woods

Let's go outside!

hiking

in the duchy of Lauenburg

Numerous lakes with their wooded shores offer wonderful hiking trails. One of these, for example, is the Ratzeburger Küchensee. If you leave Ratzeburg to the south and follow its eastern shore, you will reach the Farchauer Mühle, a restaurant and café in a tranquil location. The Schmalsee in Mölln is also adorned with colorful forests in autumn. A walk around the lake can be combined with a stop at the Waldhalle hotel and restaurant or a visit to the Uhlenkolk Nature Park Center. The Seedorfer and Zecher Werder, on the other hand, offer wonderful circular trails along the Schaalsee. And a hike along the Garrensee to the Salemer Moor promises a very special nature experience - a particularly diverse refuge in the Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park.

There are also wonderful hiking trails away from the lakes. For example in the Sachsenwald forest. Here you can follow the Max Schmeling Trail through the forest, following the footsteps of history. Past the fritz im wald restaurant - Max Schmeling used to train here, today the restaurant invites you to stop for a bite to eat. The kingfisher trail leads through the mixed beech forest and on narrow paths along the Bille river through the habitat of rare animal species. With a bit of luck, you can spot kingfishers, grey wagtails and the like here. In the south of the region, the Hohe Elbufer with its hiking trail presents it's own speciality : breathtaking views of the Elbe open up again and again between forest and water.
