Hike along the Elbe-Lübeck-Kanal around Fitzen

On the hiking trail around Fitzen, you can expect romantic scenery along the Elbe-Lübeck Canal and nature shaped by the Ice Age. Layers of sand and gravel deposited here have been excavated since the end of the 19th century, but have now been left to nature as largely exploited gravel pits, resulting in nutrient-poor soils and rare amphibians settling in the shallow ponds. Towards the canal, you will find meadows, pastures, and rows of poplar trees. The only ferry on the Elbe-Lübeck Canal runs between Fitzen and Siebeneichen from April to October.
