Would you have known? Max Schmeling trained at Forsthaus Friedrichsruh before becoming world heavyweight boxing champion in 1930. He certainly appreciated the tranquillity of the Sachsenwald forest, which you can enjoy to the full on this hike.
The starting point of this hike is the disused Friedrichsruh railroad station - be sure to take a look at the railroad underpass designed by Princess Elisabeth von Bismarck! The route then takes you past the forester's lodge deep into the forest and back again after a short loop through the avenue of lime trees. Finally, we recommend a visit to the butterfly garden.

Starten Sie Ihre Wanderung auf dem Max-Schmeling-Weg am stillgelegten Bahnhof Friedrichsruh. Von der Bismarck-Stiftung führt Sie der Weg erst durch eine Unterführung und dann weiter entlang des Schlossweges in Richtung Norden. Sie passieren den historischen Marstall und das Bismarck Museum. Halten Sie sich hier links und folgen der Rosenstraße (L208) bis zum Oedendorferweg. Biegen Sie rechts auf diesen ab und folgen ihm - vorbei am Forsthaus Friedrichsruh - bis zum eigentlichen Max-Schmeling-Wanderweg. Der Weg führt Sie nun durch den Wald bis zu einem Hügelgrab. Halten Sie sich hier links und folgen dem Weg in Richtung L208. Nach ca. 200 m überqueren Sie diese. Weiter geht es auf der Lindenallee bis Sie sich nach ca. 600 m wieder links halten und dann dem Wanderweg Richtung Süden folgen. Auf ca. 1,4 km geht es nun wieder durch den Sachsenwald. Bevor Sie nun auf die Brücke am Bahnmuseum treffen, biegen Sie links in Richtung des Garten der Schmetterlinge ab. Nach ca. 1300 m sind Sie dann wieder am Ausgangspunkt in Friedrichsruh angekommen.
