Nature's Treasure Nature Experience Area
A special journey of discovery awaits nature lovers just outside the gates of Eulenspiegelstadt. The nature reserve stretches from Hegesee to Lütauer See, with its lakes, diverse riparian vegetation, species-rich moors and high beech forests. Along the hiking trail towards Lütauer Lake, activity stations invite visitors to join in and try things out. The Uhlenkolk Nature Park Centre is a good starting point with its range of activities. In the wildlife park, native wild animals, a boulder garden and a moor lake await visitors.

The Mölln nature discovery area is a lake and forest area south of the Mölln wildlife park between Lütauer See and Hegesee with fascinating nature and many activity stations for participating and experiencing nature.
A unique mixture
It is a fantastic series of ups and downs: from the valley slope, the trail leads into the moor or down into the bottomless pool in the wildlife park, where insectivorous sundews grow. From Schmalsee, the wooded bank rises just as steeply again. At the bottom of the valley between the wildlife park and Lütauer Lake flows the Heilige Bach stream. A species-rich fen with moisture-loving plants such as sedges has developed on its banks. Near-natural mixed beech forests cover the valley slopes on the left and right, and reed belts and floating leaf zones grow on the lake shores.

In addition to great crested grebes, many other water birds circle above the water. Native forest animals such as fallow deer, wild boar and eagle owls can be observed at leisure and in detail in the wildlife park. On the cycle and hiking trail towards Lütauer See and Schmalsee, activity stations for experiencing and discovering nature complement the natural treasures.

Ice age shapes diverse landscape
Glacial masses, meltwater and covered ice chunks have shaped this fascinating landscape. A steep-sided valley, the deep Grundlose Kolk and the Möllner lake chain were created. It lies in a meltwater channel and consists of seven fairly shallow lakes: Drüsensee, Lütauer See, Schmalsee, Hegesee, Schulsee, Stadtsee and Ziegelsee. The adjacent wildlife park was founded in 1968, and since 2013, the Uhlenkolk has been a meeting point and starting point for nature lovers. The nature discovery area is a successful conglomeration of natural treasures and nature events.

Between water and forest
A good starting point for exploring on foot or by bike are the car parks at the wildlife park (Waldhallenweg) or at Uhlenkolk a little further down the road. The cycling and hiking trails along the chain of lakes (some of which are also used for Nordic walking) connect forest and water in ever-changing combinations.

On the Möllner Cycle Route 2, mixed beech forests line the lakes, swamp forests line the stream, and lowland moors fill the damp gaps. In early summer, early bloomers transform the slopes of the valley and lakes into a colourful splendour. The Rolandseck bathing area is located on Lake Lütau, accessible via the orange swallow hiking trail. Hikers coming from the Hellbach Valley can take a detour to the Grundlosen Kolk in the wildlife park and, with a little luck, discover the blue-coloured moor frog ready to mate in spring.
