Discover the history of the Herzogtum Lauenburg district from prehistoric times to the present day as you wander through the stately halls of the manor house, originally built as a summer residence for the Dukes of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
The museum is located in the heart of Ratzeburg’s old town, at the foot of the cathedral. Built on Palmberg, the manor’s garden offers a fantastic view across the Domsee to the Ratzeburg suburb with its Art Nouveau villas. In the exhibitions, you can take a journey back to the time of Henry the Lion, explore medieval woodcarvings, the cozy living culture of the Biedermeier period, contemporary regional artists, or be transported to the 1950s.
Please note: From January 2025, the manor house will be closed due to renovation work. In the outbuildings, the exhibition on agriculture and crafts is only open on weekends, while the presentation “The Spirit of the 1950s”, as well as the A. Hannig photo studio and the historical pharmacy, are regularly open from Tuesday to Sunday.

Das Kreismuseum Herzogtum Lauenburg ist nicht barrierefrei. Der Eingang zum Hauptgebäude ist über eine mit Kopfsteinen gepflasterte leichte Steigung erreichbar. Es besteht die Möglichkeit, mit einem PKW zum Ein- und Aussteigen vor die Eingangstür zu fahren. Ein elektrischer Türöffner ist nicht vorhanden. Bitte nutzen Sie die Klingel am Haupteingang links, wenn Sie Hilfe benötigen.
Die Ausstellungsräume im Erdgeschoss sind für Besucher*innen mit Geheinschränkungen und im Rollstuhl geeignet. Eine Behindertentoilette ist vorhanden. Der Schlüssel dafür befindet sich an der Museumskasse.
Im Museum gibt es kein taktiles Wegeleitsystem. Auch Texte und Beschriftungen sind noch nicht in Brailleschrift verfügbar.
