Der Berkenthiner Salzprahm
The reconstruction of a medieval Salzprahm can be admired in Berkenthin. 500 years ago, such flat-bottomed boats transported salt from Lüneburg to Lübeck on the Stecknitz Canal. Like its medieval original, the Prahm has no engine and is towed from the riverbank with ropes. From May to September, it is possible to walk in the footsteps of the Stecknitz navigators and to acquire the towrope licence "Treidlerpatent".
