Zum Fahrenkrug

160 years of girl power

 Tradition and female strength

In female hands for 160 years –
A country inn with history and character

In the middle of this rural idyll stands the restaurant Zum Fahrenkrug, which tells a story not only of tradition but also of female strength. For 160 years, this country inn has been run exclusively by women – over generations, they have not only cooked and served, but also shaped, changed and developed the business. It is a place where history remains alive and, at the same time, space is created for new ideas.

The history of the Fahrenkrug began in 1866 when Maria Krützmann registered a tavern with a post office and horse station. Perhaps it is a coincidence that the firstborn children in the family history that followed were always girls. But perhaps it was simply meant to be.
After the business had survived the difficult times of the First World War, the tavern's offerings were expanded in the early 1950s to include hearty sandwiches and a farmer's breakfast. In the 1960s, the restaurant and menu were expanded, a small hall was added, and more and more family and birthday celebrations were held there. Thus, the ‘Fahrenkrug’ increasingly became a meeting place for locals and guests. Then as now, people meet there for regulars' tables or once a week for lunch or dinner. Many guests become acquaintances and friends, and many a guest has celebrated their wedding, golden wedding anniversary and the christening of their grandchildren at the ‘Zum Fahrenkrug’ country inn.

The warm and friendly atmosphere, along with the ever-popular fried potatoes, is one of the reasons why the restaurant is so popular with regulars and visitors alike. It is a meeting place, not only for regulars and regulars' table visitors, but also for chatting and lingering.

In 2026, the restaurant ‘Zum Fahrenkrug’ will celebrate its 160th anniversary. Until then, the women of the family will work together: Grandma Heide with her wealth of experience, Maike Wolf with her warm energy, and daughters Aylina and Marie with the fresh breeze of what may be the next generation. Chef Steffen will always be there as a rock in the kitchen.
