Patchwork im Landhaus Köthel

Tradition meets contemporary spirit

New life in old walls

A place steeped in history – and with a bright future:
The country inn in Köthel is being given a new lease of life

In the heart of Köthel stands the country inn that tells stories – of changing times, of the aroma of homemade food, of celebrations, conversations, and encounters. The country inn, whose roots date back to the 17th century, was once the social center of the village – a place of community, enjoyment, and hospitality.

Now, the historic building is starting a new chapter: with a fresh gastronomic concept, contemporary ambience, and great attention to detail, the country inn is being carefully brought into the present by the Duwe family. The aim is to restore the building to what it has been for centuries – a lively meeting place for locals and guests, for young and old, for everyday life and special occasions.

Throughout the eventful history of the site where the Landgasthof in Köthel stands today, the residents were always farmers and innkeepers until the 20th century, when the first mention of a restaurant appeared. The Reimers family had a formative influence on the further history of the country house. Ludwig Reimers gradually phased out livestock farming and modernized the building in the 1970s with new windows and oil heating, and converted the large hallway into a hall. When Gerhard Reimers converted the horse stable into a club room in the 1980s, the Landgasthof Köthel began to take on its current appearance.
The locals and the community gathered in the so-called “Dörpkrog” for various events and celebrations. But when the country inn no longer had an operator, things quieted down in Köthel. The community wanted to change that and bought the country inn in 2018. They were looking for a tenant who would reestablish a restaurant there and create a meeting place for social life.

It was coincidence or fate that the Duwe family was also looking for a new challenge, preferably in the countryside. With great attention to detail, the young couple has given the country inn a modern look while retaining the charm of the old country inn.
The entrance area with its brick arch and beautiful front door gives a glimpse of the country house's history and is also very inviting. The guest rooms, with their modern interior and old tiled stove, wonderfully combine the new with the old and create a cozy and authentic atmosphere. In the summer months or for family celebrations, guests can sit on the cozy terrace.
The support from the community and the locals, who have now almost become regulars, is tremendous. And so, with Justine and Felix Duwe from “Patchwork,” the country inn in Köthel is set to become what it once was: the center of the community with festivals, markets, and family celebrations.
