Hans Heitmann Restaurant in Wotersen –
A place with history, heart, and open doors
For over 100 years, Hans Heitmann Restaurant in Wotersen has been more than just a place to eat and drink – it's an integral part of village life, a space for encounters, stories, and community.
What served as a post office at the end of the 19th century became a restaurant in 1919 – and has undergone many changes since then without losing its character. Initially, the restaurant, retail store, and post office operated in parallel. But after the grocery store closed in the 1980s, the restaurant became increasingly important. The women of the family in particular shaped the change, including the menu.
The Hans Heitmann was not only a place for celebrations, but also for helping others: in difficult times, the restaurant served as refugee accommodation, provided space for school lessons, and was an early meeting place for the whole village. Even the film world has discovered the special flair of the building – two episodes of the TV crime series Tatort have already been filmed here.
Today, Hans Heitmann's restaurant is livelier than ever. Numerous regulars' tables and clubs – from motorcycle clubs to local history societies – have found their home here. People chat, laugh and, of course, enjoy good food. Guests particularly appreciate the freshly prepared classics of German cuisine served by Anke Asmus. After training as a chef, she took over the restaurant in January 1999 and has been shaping the traditional business ever since.
The cosy atmosphere, personal service and deep roots in the local community make the restaurant a real meeting place for young and old alike.
True to the motto: ‘Every guest is welcome here.’ And you can feel that – from the very first moment.
