Pilgrimage Walks in the Monastery Triangle:
This year under the motto “Encounters – with one another, with ourselves, and with nature.”

For the spring pilgrimage, one group sets off from Ratzeburg and another from Rehna. They walk toward a shared destination: the village of Dechow. On October 8, 2026, participants will once again set out from Ratzeburg and Zarrentin toward the meeting place in Seedorf.

The former monastery site of Ratzeburg is located in Schleswig-Holstein, while the former monastery of Rehna lies in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Until 1945, Dechow belonged to Schleswig-Holstein. Due to border adjustments between the British and Soviet occupation zones, the municipality of Dechow became part of Mecklenburg in November 1945. For 40 years, the states were separated by a border. Even today, the differing experiences of the past continue to shape us, and despite all the movement between East and West, an invisible boundary can sometimes still be felt.

The pilgrimage gathering in Dechow creates space for conversation and shared experiences.

The “Monastery Triangle” is an example of sustainable tourism and strengthens the relationships between the districts in East and West Germany. The tours are organized by the Lauenburgischer Kunstverein, Grenzhus Schlagsdorf, Tourist-Information Ratzeburg, the Evangelisches Frauenwerk Lübeck-Lauenburg, the Klosterverein Rehna and the Stadt Zarrentin am Schaalsee.
