The exhibition showcases key filming locations and film productions from the district.

The District Museum of the Duchy of Lauenburg is a guest at the A. Paul Weber Museum with the special exhibition “Action! Filming Locations in the Duchy of Lauenburg.” Visitors can look back on more than 100 years of film history in the Duchy of Lauenburg. It all began in 1922 with two films: in Lauenburg, scenes were allegedly shot for the horror classic Nosferatu – A Symphony of Horror—a rumor that persists to this day but for which there is no evidence. In Ratzeburg, footage was filmed for The Devil’s Elixirs.

The real boom started in the 1960s, and since the 2010s the region between Lübeck and Hamburg has established itself as a popular backdrop for the film industry.

For more than 90 films and TV series, actors, camera operators, directors, and many other professionals from the film industry have come—and continue to come—to produce their works at these unique locations. Using newspaper articles, posters, and photographs, the exhibition highlights selected filming locations and productions that have had a lasting impact on the district and its residents.
